After opening the Napoleon Invitational with a win on Friday evening, Napoleon split a pair of games on Saturday. The first game saw Napoleon drop a defensive struggle to the Mason Comets by a score of 4-2. Austin Carr scored this first goal of the game at the 3:17 mark of the first period to get the Wildcats out to an early lead. The Comets scored twice to take the lead in the first period at 2-1, and Napoleon failed to convert on a man-advantage situation at the end of the quarter, that would have tied the score. The only score of the second period came on a man-up situation that Mason capitalized on, giving them a 3-1 lead heading into the half. Mason extended their lead to 4-1 midway thru the third stanza, but Tyler Haase scored with :08 seconds to go in the quarter to get Napoleon back in the game with one period to play trail only by 2 goals at 4-2. Mason defense kept Napoleon of the scoreboard in the final period, and posted a 4-2 win over the Wildcats. Napoleon’s strong defensive effort was led by Kyler Watson, with 4 steals and a strong showing on goal by Todd Schink.
Napoleon defeated Ann Arbor Huron in the second contest of the day. Huron brought a split squad to Napoleon, also competing in a tournament at Ann Arbor Pioneer that day. Jordan McBride, Logan Gerken and Haase scored the first three goals of the game, and Napoleon never looked back cruising to a 16-5 win. Huron did get it as close as 7-5 at the half, but Napoleon scored 4 goals in the first 3 minutes of the 3rd stanza to put the game away. McBride scored 6 goals in the game, Kyler Watson added 3 more. Zack Lerch, Carr and Ryan Stover also scored for Napoleon. Todd Schink and Michael Retcher combine to block 10 of 15 shots on goal for Napoleon.
The Napoleon boys JV team won their second contest of the season with an easy 12=6 win over Milford’s JV team. Retcher held the Eagles to just one goal in 2 and ½ periods of play. Zack Lerch scored 5 times, J.D. Henry and Ryan Stover each added 3 goals, Jon Schroeder had a pair of goals and Tony Tijerina also added a goal for Napoleon. Stover and Schroeder also chipped in with 3 steals defensively.

Napoleon boy’s water polo team recorded a victory in their opening game of the season, with a 14-5 win over Canton GlenOak at the Napoleon Invitational Friday evening. Napoleon scored the first 6 goals of the game, four of those goals were by Jordan McBride. Marc Anderson and Austin Carr scored the other goals, that gave Napoleon their 6 goal lead, midway through the second period. After GlenOak scored their first goal of the game, Carr and Ryan Stover answered with 2 more Wildcat goals to push the lead to 8-1 at halftime. Napoleon moved the ball well on offense. Todd Schink quarterback the attack with fast outlet passes from goal, and that generated many scoring opportunites for the Wildcats. Napoleon again started fast in the second half, with Zack Lerch and Carr scoring to open a 10-1 lead for Napoleon. GlenOak scored for the final time against starting goalie Todd Schink with :02 seconds remaining in the third period. Schink left after 3 quarters, after having and outstanding game in goal stopping 14 of 16 shots on goal by the Golden Eagles. Carr, Stover, Jon Schroeder and J.D. Henry all scored single goals in the final quarter for Napoleon. Austin Carr and Jordan McBride each scored four goals in the game, McBride also added 3 assists. Anderson led the Cats defensively with 3 steals. Tyler Haase shutdown the interior offense, with excellent play in the defensive hole, forcing GlenOak to settle on shots from the outside.

The Napoleon boy’s water polo team lost a 13-3 decision to the Ann Arbor Huron River Rats Tuesday evening, in Ann Arbor. Napoleon scored first, Jordan McBride capitalizing on a 5 meter penalty shot to give the Cats a 1-0 lead. Huron responded with 2 goals to close out the quarter giving Huron a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. Both teams missed opportunities to score, Huron missed a couple from close range and Todd Schink made saves on a couple of chances. But Huron scored the only goal of the period and took a 3-1 lead into halftime. The Rats came out flying in the third period, scoring 4 times in the first 2:20 of the period to quickly take 7-1 lead. They added two more goals before Ryan Stover’s goal made it 9-2. Jordan McBride scored his second goal of the game, but it wasn’t enough as Huron cruised to a victory. Schink played well in goal, the first half stopping 5 of 8 shots, but all goals in the third period were from close range, and Schink had no chance. J.D. Henry had two steals to help out defensively.
The Napoleon JV squad won a close game with Huron’s JV squad squeezing out an 8-7 victory. J.D. Henry scored with 1:23 to go in the game giving Napoleon the one goal win. Micheal Retcher and Jake Cordes combined to stop 9 of 16 shots on goal for Napoleon. Ryan Stover scored 4 times, Jon Schroeder and J.D. Henry each scored twice. Schroeder also had 4 steals defensively for the Wildcats. Stover and Shawn Fausey played well defensively shutting down several Huron counterattacks late in the game to hold Huron in check and preserve the victory.

The first game saw Milford jump out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter before Napoleon could even generate any scoring opportunities. Milford scored 3 more time in the second quarter to only one for Napoleon, and the eagles took a 7-1 lead into halftime. Napoleon got the score as close as 11-6 in the second half, but Milford cruised to a 12-7 win. The second game pitted Napoleon against Princeton High School. Late in the first period, Jordan McBride scored on a man-advantage situation to tie the score at one. Princeton responded with two goals to close out the quarter, and added 3 more at the start of the second to take a 6-1 lead on the Wildcats. The teams traded a pair of goals in the third period, and Princeton score the only goal of the final period to give the Vikings the victory 9-3. McBride, Zack Lerch and Jon Schroeder scored goals for Napoleon.
The final game again was another slow start for Napoleon, with the competition
Sycamore High School taking an early 5-1 lead. Napoleon scored twice in the second period to Sycamore’s one goal, pulling the Wildcats to with 3 at 6-3. Sycamore score quickly in the third period, with two goals to make the score 8-3, Napoleon countered with a goal to end the third quarter and one to start the fourth, to give Napoleon some hope at 8-5. But that was as close as the Wildcats would get with the Aves winning by a score of 11-5. Stover scored 3 goals, Tyler Haase and Schroeder each added goals for Napoleon.
Napoleon’s next game is home Tuesday night on September 11th, against St. Francis. Napoleon is 2-5 on the season.

Napoleon took a 2-1 lead on the Golden Bears, and scored was tied at 3-3 until midway through the second period when the size and depth of Upper Arlington wore Napoleon down. Zack Lerch netted 5 goals and Stover and Ethan Lange scored the other goals for Napoleon.

The Napoleon boy’s JV water polo went 4-0 in game at the Milford invitational. In Napoleon first game they defeated Mason by a score of 12-4. Zack Lerch led the Cats with 4 goals. Jon Schroeder, J.D. Henry and Ryan Stover each scored twice, and Austin Carr and Shawn Fausey also scored goals. Micheal Retcher stopped 7 of 11 shots on goal for the Wildcats.
Napoleon then defeated Princeton, by a score of 16-0. Retcher and Jake Cordes needed to block only 5 shots in the game for the shutout. Henry, Lerch and Stover each scored 3 goals. Retcher and Fausey had a pair of goals. Schroeder, Carr, Marc Anderson and Ethan Lange all scored goals for Napoleon.
Napoleon’s third contest provided a 9-2 victory over Milford. Stover netted 5 goals, Carr had 2 goals and Lerch and Anderson added the other scores for the Wildcats. Retcher blocked 4 of 6 shots on goal.
The final game of the day saw Napoleon complete their undefeated day with a close win over Sycamore. Retcher faced 20 shots in goal, blocking 12 of them. Stover scored 5 times to lead a 10 goal attack, and Napoleon posted a 10-8 victory. Carr, Lerch, Henry, Anderson and Schroeder score single goals for Napoleon.
Boy’s Game Results September 11th, 2007
Napoleon’s Boys Water Polo team lost to St. Francis by a score of 10-3 Tuesday evening at the NHS Natatorium. Napoleon opened fast, but missed on 3 early scoring opportunities and St, Francis scored on their first two chance to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Jordan McBride scored with 37 seconds remaining in the first quarter to make the score 2-1 Knights at the break. St. Francis scored the first two goals of the period, before Zack Lerch scored to pull Napoleon within 2 at 4-2. The Knights scored again before the close of the second period to take a 5-2 lead into halftime. The Wildcats had 2 excellent chances from close range, but the Knights goaltender made excellent saves and it was St. Francis scoring first in the third to push the lead to 6-2. Lerch again scored to make the score 6-3, but that was as close as Napoleon would get.
Napoleon is 2-6 on the season. Napoleon’s next game is at the Ohio Cup in Worthington September 15th, the first round opponent is a re-match with St. Francis.

Napoleon?s Boys Water Polo team went 2-2 at the Ohio Cup this weekend. Napoleon lost their opening two games to St. Francis and St. Charles by scores of 8-4 and 9-4 respectively. Against St. Francis, Ryan Stover scored 3 goals and Zack Lerch scored the other goal. In the game against St. Charles, Austin Carr, Tyler Haase, Stover and Lerch scored goals. The final two games for Napoleon pitted them against Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Pioneer?s ?B? squads (both Huron and Pioneer entered two teams in the tournament). The Wildcats defeated Huron ?B? by a score of 15-3, and Pioneer ?B? by a score of 12-3. Against Huron, Carr and Jordan McBride scored 4 goals. J.D. Henry and Jon Schroeder each scored 2 goals. Micheal Retcher, Lerch, Haase and Tony Tijerina each netted single goals. Todd Schink and Retcher combined in goals to stop 12 of 15 shots. In the game against Pioneer ?B?, Lerch and McBride each score 4 goals, Stover had two tallies, and Tijerina and Stover scored single goals.

Napoleon Boy?s water polo team won a 10-2 decision over Sylvania Tuesday evening at the Sylvania Northview Natatorium. Napoleon scored 3 goals in the opening period to take a 3-0 lead after the first period. Napoleon scored twice more early in the second quarter to push the lead to 5-0. Sylvania got on the board before the halftime break to pull within 4 at 5-1. The Wildcats scored first in the third quarter to take a 5 goal lead again, but Sylvania answered to close the gap to 6-2, but Napoleon scored once more in the 3rd, and early in the 4th to put the game away. Tyler Haase scored 4 goals, Austin Carr had 2 goals, Ryan Stover, Jordan McBride, Kyler Watson and J.D. Henry scored goals for Napoleon. Todd Schink was outstanding in goal stopping 11 of 13 shots on goal by Sylvania. Defensively Haase, Carr and McBride led Napoleon with 3 steals each. McBride and Watson also had 3 assists. Napoleon is 5-8 on the season.

Napoleon’s boy’s water polo team lost a pair of game Friday evening at the Knight Invitational in Toledo. The first game started off as a defensive struggle with Worthington Kilbourne. With the scored tied at one, the Kilbourne Wolves scored just before the end of the period, to take a 2-1 lead. In the second quarter, neither teams scored for the first 3 and a half minutes, but Kilbourne capitalized on some defensive miscues late in the quarter to take a 5-1 lead at the halftime break. The wolves started out fast and score twice to open the third stanza, but Napoleon countered with two goals of their own to pull within 4 at 7-3. That was as close as Napoleon would get, and Kilbourne went on to a 10-4 victory. Kyler Watson and Zack Lerch each netted a pair of goals for Napoleon. Jon Schroeder had a pair of steals for the Wildcats.
The second game was a tight one for most of the game, with tournament host Toledo St. Francis. Napoleon took a 2-1 lead into the first period break. St. Francis scored 3 unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead. Napoleon responded with their own goal to pull within one at 4-3 heading into halftime. St. Francis scored 4 goals to Napoleon’s one in the third period, and Knights led 8-4 at the end of three periods. Napoleon closed the gap to 8-5 with a goal to open the final quarter, but that was as close as Napoleon would come the rest of the way, with St. Francis claiming a 13-8 victory. Jordan McBride, Lerch and Schroeder each scored two goals for Napoleon. Austin Carr and Watson netted single goals for the Wildcats.

Napoleon’s boy’s water polo team went 1-1 Saturday at the Toledo St. Francis Knight Invitational. The first game of the day saw Napoleon play Sylvania, at team they had defeated 11-3 earlier in the week. This game started out much differently though, Sylvania jumped out to a 1-0 lead, and held on to the lead at 2-1 at the end of the first period. The teams traded goals in the second quarter, and Sylvania still lead at the half, by a score of 3-2. Sylvania scored a pair of goals around Napoleon’s lone goal on the quarter, and lead Napoleon by a score of 5-3 heading into the final quarter of play. But Napoleon, scored three times in the final pe3riod and held Sylvania, off the board, and when Sylvania’s final shot was deflected by Jon Schroeder, Napoleon came away with a hard fought 6-5 win. Todd Schink blocked 12 of 17 shots on goal by Napoleon.
The second game of the day was against a good Mason Comet team. Napoleon jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and still lead 2-1 after one period. Napoleon extended their lead to 6-2 heading into halftime. Mason came back on Napoleon starting in the third quarter. The Comets outscored Napoleon 3-1 in the third period and trailed only by 2 with one period left to play. Napoleon scored first in the final period to take an 8-5 lead, but Mason came back to tie the score with just 15 seconds to play in the game. Napoleon ran a quick play off of a timeout, and the shot was deflected to the right, and with 1 second left on the clock, Mason through up a desperation shot the went in as the buzzer sounded to claim an 9-8 victory. Jordan McBride scored 3 goals, Austin Carr and Zack Lerch scored 2 goals, and Ryan Stover added the other goal. Tyler Haase had 3 assists and 3 steals for Napoleon

The teams traded goals in the third period, and St. Francis led 6-4 heading into the final period of play. Napoleon couldn’t generate any offense in the final stanza and St. Francis posted the 10-4 victory. Jordan McBride and Haase each scored a pair of goals for Napoleon. Todd Schink blocked 15 of 24 shots he faced in the game.

Napoleon’s boy’s water polo team lost a home game to Sylvania last evening. Sylvania opened the scoring in the first period with 2 goals to take a 2-0 lead. Napoleon settled down defensively, and didn’t allow another chance, but could not generate any good chances themselves, and quarter ended with Sylvania leading 2-0. Napoleon started out fast in the second period, scoring 28 seconds in, to pull within 1 at 2-1, on a goal by Kyler Watson. But the defenses took over after that, neither could score for the remainder of the second quarter. And Sylvania clung to that 2-1 lead into the halftime break. Napoleon killed off a man down situation, and looked like they would trail by 1 heading into the final quarter, but Sylvania scored with just 4 seconds left in the third to take a 2 goal lead into the last period. Napoleon again had to fight off a man down situation, but they killed the penalty, and with 1:42 to go in the game, Jon Schroeder scored to give Napoleon a chance trailing only by one at 3-2. Napoleon had 3 more chances to score including a man advantage situation, but could not convert and the game ended with Sylvania claiming a 3-2 win. Micheal Retcher blocked 13 of 16 shots on goal by Sylvania. Tyler Haase had 4 steals for Napoleon defensively. Watson and Schroeder assisted on each others goals for the Wildcats.

The Napoleon’s Boys Water Polo team went 1-1-1, this past weekend at the Mason tournament. Napoleon scored first in their opening game against the Sycamore Aves, but the lead was short lived as the Aves scored the next five of the next six goals in the first period and the opening minutes of the second period to open up a 5-2 lead. Napoleon slowed the game down, but the Aves scored 2 twice more in the final minute of the first half to take a 7-2 lead into the halftime break. Napoleon scored the first 2 goals of the third, one coming on a man advantage situation, to pull within 3 at 7-4. The teams traded goals to end the third period and Napoleon trailed by three at 8-5 going into the final period of play. The Wildcats fought back, but each time Napoleon scored Sycamore answered, and the Aviators went on to an 11-8 win. Kyler Watson, Tyler Haase and Jordan McBride each scored twice for Napoleon. Jon Schroeder and Ryan Stover also scored goals. Tyler Haase had 4 steals and Kyler Watson blocked 3 shots in the field to help Napoleon defensively.
The second game was a re-match against Cincinnati Princeton. The Vikings had defeated Napoleon by a score of 9-4 earlier in the year. This game was close throughout. Napoleon had many chances early in the game, but failed to convert. And Princeton took a 2-0 lead scoring on their first two good opportunities. Napoleon answered with a goal at the end of the first quarter, and another to open the second period, to tie the score at 2. Princeton again answered with a pair of goals, but Napoleon came right back to score before the half and only trailed by 1 at 4-3. Napoleon scored first in the third to tie the score at 4, and after both teams traded goals, the game was tied at 5 heading into the fourth stanza. The Wildcats missed on a man advantage situation, that would have broken the tie, and midway through the period the Vikings took the lead at 6-5. Napoleon answered right back to tie the score at 6 with 3 minutes to play. Neither team could score the rest of the way, and the game ended in a 6-6 tie. Jon Schroeder scored 3 goals for Napoleon, Zack Lerch, McBride and Watson scored the other goals for the Wildcats. Stover and Watson had 5 steals each to lead Napoleon defensively. Todd Schink blocked 8 of 14 shots on goal by Princeton.
The final game of the weekend for the Wildcats had them pitted against the GlenOak Golden Eagles. GlenOak scored to open the game, but Napoleon went on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 5-1 lead after 1 period of play. The Wildcats opened fast in the second period, going on a 4-1 scoring run, to push the lead to 9-2 at halftime. GlenOak could not close the gap in the second half, and the Wildcats cruised to a 13-4 win. Todd Schink blocked 9 of 13 shots on goal. McBride and Haase each scored 3 goals. Schroeder, Watson and Lerch scored a pair of goals, and Logan Gerken netted the other goal for Napoleon. Schroeder led Napoleon defensively with 4 steals. Stover, McBride and Haase each had 3 assists.
